Stained Glass and Architecture
Remembering Through Stained Glass
The church's stained-glass windows — including the Madonna Lily and Anchor Cross windows — hold the congregation's memory in colored light.
The First United Methodist Church building carries stained-glass windows that generations of members have known and loved. Among them are the Madonna Lily window and the Anchor Cross window, each preserved in the book's photographic record.
These windows and the brick building that holds them tell a story of their own — of successive church buildings, of the 1919 rebuilding after the fire, and of the people whose faith and generosity shaped the spaces where the congregation worships.
Drawn from the book's photographic record of the church building and its stained-glass windows.
